Daniel Bethell’s magnificent run of form continued when he claimed SL3 gold at the Spanish Para Badminton International Toledo.
The Paralympic silver medalist walked away with victory in Vitoria last week to start his year in the best way.
This week the action was in Castilla La Mancha instead of the Basque Country, but the result was the same, with the 27-year-old taking first place.
In both tournaments he reversed the result of the Paralympic gold medal final in Tokyo.
Bethell beat Indian Pramod Bhagat in a convincing 54-minute clash in Toledo, dominating the first game 21-6 and surviving a comeback to take the second 21-18.
The Huntingdon native defeated Paralympic mixed doubles bronze medalist Daisuke Fujihara 21-12 21-12 in the semi-final and had too much for Bhagat’s compatriot Nehal Gupta in the fourth.
Elsewhere, Rachel Choong reached the SH6 women’s singles semifinals and faced the inspired Indonesian Rina Marlina, who defeated her 21-7, 21-13 to win the event.
Teammates Jack Shephard and Krysten Coombs met in the quarterfinals of the SH6 men’s singles and played another classic.
Shephard emerged victorious this time, winning the first 21-15 but trailed by Coombs 18-21 in the second, and then took the decider 21-10.
Shepherd’s week came to a close against France’s Charles Noakes in the semi-finals.
