The Rajasthan Royals (RR) Chief executive officer (CEO) Jake Lush McCrum has hinted at buying a franchise in the Women’s IPL (WIPL).
On Tuesday 3rd January, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the launch of an Invitation to Bid for the right to own and operate a Women’s IPL Franchise (WIPL).

“The IPL Governing Council invites bids from reputable entities to acquire the right to own and operate a team in the Indian Women’s Premier League, through a bidding process,” a statement from the Board read. of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).
Furthermore, the BCCI mentioned that entities will be required to make a payment of INR 5 lakh, which will be non-refundable, before January 21 to access the Invitation to Bid (ITT).

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jake Lush McCrum has revealed that they already have the bidding documents.
“The process is open now and we have the bidding documents. The bid deadline is January 25. So, we’ll see,” he told News 18 CricketNext.

Jake further said that they have invested heavily in women’s cricket and are keen to buy a franchise in the Indian Women’s Premier League.
“We have invested a lot of money in women’s cricket, especially in recent years. And that will continue no matter what.”
“There is reasonable economics involved, but we want a team and we have shown that enthusiasm. And it would have been two years ago. It could have been just us or a couple of other people who were really interested in pushing this cause forward (Women’s IPL). And it’s great to see the growth of the women’s game since then,” she further said.

The long-awaited women’s IPL is set to kick off this year and the tournament will feature 5 teams. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not announced the official dates of the tournament. However, reports claim that the women’s IPL is likely to be played from March 3-26 in India.
