The New York Rangers traded a conditional 2023 second-round pick, a 2023 fourth-round pick, and Andy Welinski to the Chicago Blackhawks for Patrick Kane and Cooper Zech.

If the Rangers make it to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Blackhawks will get a 2024 or 2025 first-round pick.

The Blackawks retain 50 percent of his salary.

The Arizona Coyotes keep 25 percent of Kane’s salary and receive a 2025 third-round pick from the Rangers.

The Blackhawks host Vili Saarijarv from the Coyotes.

media thoughts

good dad: “Obviously, this return would be much less than what the Blackhawks originally expected a few weeks ago, but it is actually a little better than what had been rumored in recent days. Even the possibility of him becoming the first would be a minor victory given Davidson’s lack of influence.”

larry brooks: “The Rangers will not be able to carry more than 21 players in the remainder of the regular season. The list includes an additional D. If an F is injured, NYR would have to come up short by one game and then call out F making less than $850,000 under emergency conditions. There is no cap in the playoffs.”
