Punjab Kings appoint Sunil Joshi as new spin bowling coach Sport-rated

On Monday, January 16, Punjab Kings (PBKS) announced the appointment of former spinal bowling all-rounder of the India national cricket team Sunil Joshi as the team’s new spinal bowling coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, which will be the 16th season of professional T20 cricket. league established by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).

Sunil Joshi, who until recently was part of the Senior Men’s National Team Committee, had worked with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the past as an assistant to head coach Anil Kumble. However, he resigned from the position at the beginning of 2020 to take over as national coach. He was also part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as a player in 2008 and 2009.

The 52-year-old will now join the coaching team headed by Trevor Bayliss, who replaced Anil Kumble at the helm after IPL 2022. Also, Wasim Jaffer is the team’s batting coach and Charl Langeveldt is the bowling coach.

PBKS took to Twitter to state that they are excited to have Joshi as the team’s spin bowling coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The PBKS team will be led by a new captain, Shikhar Dhawan, in the 2023 Indian Premier League. The franchise had released former captain Mayank Agarwal from the team ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction and handed over the responsibility of the captaincy to veteran opener Dhawan .

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings (PBKS) released 9 players ahead of the mini-auction and they entered the auction with the second highest purse of INR 32.2 crores. Punjab Kings (PBKS) had 16 players in the squad out of which 5 were foreigners and they had 9 slots open including 3 for foreign players.

They bought 6 players at the auction; Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza, Mohit Rathee, Harpreet Bhatia, Shivam Singh and Vidwath Kaverappa. Notably, Sam Curran became the most expensive player in IPL history as the franchise bought him for a whopping INR 18.50 crore.
