Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik received a bizarre sending off in a 2023 Pakistan Super League (PSL) match against Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi. Malik, while playing for the Karachi Kings, attempted a short pitch from Aamer Jamal in a recent game. However, the bat flew out of his hand. Around the same time, the ball also struck the bat, as the bowler coolly licked the ball to take Malik’s wicket.
Malik’s sacking was a huge blow to Karachi Kings who were down to 81/4 chasing a target of 198 runs. In the end, they managed 173/8.
The last time Peshwar Zalmi faced Karachi Kings, Mohammad Amir reacted angrily after he was beaten by Babar Azam for a cap. Malik had reacted on the subject then.
“The element of respect should not be missing. I have seen Amir, Imad, Babar… whenever they meet, they greet each other with respect,” Malik told a post-match news conference.
“In this room, you’re not going to be compatible the same way with everyone. Some would pair well, some you’d like, and some you might not like. But that would only be on a professional level. I’m sure you all respect each other, too.”

“It’s good for the league. Once you get into the league, you have to focus on what encourages you to do your best. But we know nobody crosses the line,” added Malik.
