Wasim Jaffer, Tom Moody Express surprise over sale of Harry Brook to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 13.25 crore Sport-rated
Former India national cricket team and Australia national cricket team players Wasim Jaffer and Tom Moody were shocked to see former IPL champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pay a whopping 13.25 million of INR rupees by Harry Brook, 23, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Mini auction 2023.
The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction is currently under ground in Kochi. England’s Harry Brook entered the IPL auction with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were involved in a bidding war to acquire the Englishman’s services and in the end he was bagged by SRH for INR 13.25 crore.

Harry Brook became the first ever IPL 2023 auction millionaire and overall the most expensive specialist batsman ever sold in a mini-auction, beating Shimron Hetmyer who sold for INR 7.75.
During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo, Wasim Jaffer said that playing in the IPL at a very high price, also for the first time, will be a great challenge for the youngster. He elaborated:
“I am really surprised. I thought they would retain their bag for Stokes and Curran because that’s what they need, most teams really need. But for someone who is very unfamiliar in Indian conditions, IPL brings a different pressure. Playing for the first time with such a high price will be challenging.
“We have seen that many great players have not been able to do that. He’s had a good PSL, he’s had a good time in Pakistan, different batting conditions, absolutely brilliant batting conditions. It is totally different when you play in India. So I’m really surprised. Being a Punjab Kings boy, I am happy that the bag from him went there”.
The only concern I would have with Harry Brook is that he is a one dimensional player – Tom Moody
During the same discussion, Tom Moody said that Brook is a high-quality player, but he only brings one set of skills to the table unlike Nicholas Pooran, who was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the mini-auction. He elaborated:
“He has shown enough in his short international career. He is a high-quality player, a young player. He is a player who is a long-term franchise player. The only concern he would have with Harry Brook is that he is a one dimensional player and he pays such a high price for a player that he only brings a frying pan. Compare him to someone like Nicholas Pooran, who was released by Sunrisers at auction and paid just over Rs 10 crore.
“He’s a two-skilled player, he’s an energetic mid-order player, he’s left-footed, which is an important item to have in the mid-order to combat spins at 150 but holds the wicket. Harry Brook what does he hit and hit with a good strike rate, but that’s all he does. That’s my only concern.”
